Roundtable Discussion
Starbase 23
Our select panelists sat down to discuss various topics important
to the room, both IC and OOC.
TIB: I'd like to welcome everyone
to another Infinite Beyond Roundtable Discussion! Our panelists
tonight are Fleet Admiral Ra who is currently Commander-in-Chief
of Starfleet; Commodore Abe Gendal, Executive Officer of Starfleet
External Affairs; Captain Brad Phoenix of the InterStellar Alliance;
And rounding out tonights panelists is Captain Carry Manchester,
who serves in Starfleet Medical Division. Welcome all *Smiles*
Abe: Thanks for having me T...my pleasure
Brad: Thank you I am glad to be here.
TIB: Let's start off tonight with
a good political question. Do alliances really mean anything anymore?
Specifically, do nations who attack another consider their enemies
potential allies? *Looks to Abe* Commodore, we'll start with you.
Abe: Well...I`d say that overall alliances
are a good idea, just that recently they haven`t panned out too
well. It all depends on the players..in the Delta Alliance, the
Breen and Dominion couldn`t really handle each other. On the flip-side,
except for specific incidences, the Federation-Klingon alliance
has really stood the test of time....everything in politics is circumstantial
TIB: *Turns to Brad* What are your
thoughts Captain?
Brad: *looks at the panel and thinks
about the answer* Some people would consider someone that attacks
one of their enemies an ally. Expecially if they are currently at
war with the other party. I believe alliances help bring other people
together in a common bound. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn`t
TIB:*Looks at Ra* Admiral, do you
share your brothers thoughts?
Ra: *Ra nods to Brad
then gives
T-Bob her attention*
I think they do.. But as far as part two
of your question.. I think the word alliance has been tossed around
with out really understanding the implications or ramifications
of what a true alliance is.. It means a coalition
union. An
agreement, not to harbor ill will against another or attack another.
I have come to believe that many speak of
alliances as a mean of miss-direction. And
yes, our allies
today may be potential enemies tomorrow.
TIB:Captain, you'll have the last
word on this topic.
Carry: I think Commodore Gendel is
right about it depending on circumstances when it comes to alliances
and treaties.. It all deoends on how friendly one race is with another
and you`re not sure if someone will continue to be your ally for
very long.. That`s why I think the federation needs to work as hard
as they can on those alliances and as Admiral Ra says that people
need to know what an actuall alliance is and stick by it..
TIB: *Swivels in his chair to look
at the group* Has tech for all intensive purposes plateuaed? Aside
from upgrades to existing tech(i.e. Mark IX phasers replaced with
Mark X phasers), will there be new tech? The new ST series is based
too far in the past to add any canon tech, so have we reached the
limit?
Abe:I don`t think so, as shown by the Voyager
episodes in the future, there is always room for more BS*G*
TIB: *Chuckles at Abe's comments*
Well said. What are your thoughts Captain Phoenix?
Brad: *nods* I agree with Abe. There is always
room for improvement. As long as its reasonable.
TIB: Admiral Ra, do you share in their
thoughts?
Ra: *she looks down, then looks up
to meet their eyes*
I disagree and agree *she smiles* Technology
is the most fleeting of all.. *she says softly, recalling something
once said to her, many years ago* No T-Bob.. we`ve just scratched
the surface. Soon you will see most boundaries vanish
time
and distance will no longer be a factor, and small hand held weapons
today that can kill or maim a man, will one day advance to kill
nations.
Starships will travel in the "wink of
an eye" and as we venture into the unknown, we will bring back
the technology of aliens to augment our own. We are just seeing
the tip of the iceberg..
TIB: *Turns to Carry* Your thoughts?
Carry: I agree with Ra in that we
are not yet finished with new technolofy and you never know what
will happen in the future with all the creative minds from different
races that work on these things..
TIB: Allrighty, it's word association
time... I'll say some phrases and you say the first word or two
that comes to your mind. *G*

TIB: *Smiles as Carry answers and
looks to the group*
The Shadow Alliance recently captured a Federation
vessel "by mistake". Will this turn into a SA-Federation
war? Or is this old news allready?
Abe: This won`t be a war at all....the
SA had apologize, and thats all the Federation needs to ease the
situation. As long as the Indiana is returned no problem...everything
will run smoothly
TIB:What are your thoughts on the
topic Captain Phoenix?
Brad:I am not sure. I haven`t followed
the news about it that closely. But I hope it won`t turn into a
war.
TIB: *Turns to Ra* Admiral Ra?
Ra:*looks to T-Bob, before responding*
I have been informed that it was an error.. a mistake. hmmmm However,
it will become what we make it. *looks to all* What will we make
of it? *she asks a rhetorical question*
Brad: *watches his sister as she talks*
TIB: *Looks at Carry* Your thoughts
Captain?
Carry: I wouldn`t see it coming to
a war unless that it wasn`t a mistake.. I really don`t think that
a thing like that is really a plausible mistake..
TIB: Are there cliques in the Nexus? If so, how much of a
factor are these cliques in allowing new C's to become recognized?
Abe:
Yes there are...but with so few active members, I think everyone
is open to
new people as long as they are decent rpers.
Brad: Cliques I am not sure. IF you
mean small groups of people that rp only with themselves maybe.
TIB: *Turns to Ra* What do you think
Admiral?
Ra: *she smiles*
We have over 15 non-canon groups playing
in the Nexus.. another one will be introduced soon. No
with
groups like the Adiams, ISA, Anterian Union, Iconian and Bajorian
Federation, making the transition with us from WBS and SB23, plus
our canon races and species
coupled by the newer players..
I can say that we have integrated well.
TIB:*Nods* Well said Admiral. *Looks
to Carry* Final words on this topic Captain?
Carry: I think there is a tiny bit
of it but it`s not as bad as in some places I;ve seen.. People welcome
new people into the room which is alot more than I can say for alot
of other places..
TIB: Our final topic this session
is SF Internal Affairs saw the departure of Admiral W.G. Moore from
its command. IA has a long history of being a dysfunctional department.
Can we expect IA to become a better functioning department?
Abe:
It all depends on the new co...and their willingness to work wit
the rather
forceful fleet co's
Brad:I have no comment on it. Since
I don`t know Admiral WG Moore or the IA that well.
TIB:*Looks at Admiral Ra* I'm interested
to know your thoughts on this topic Admiral.
Ra:*Ra is seen frowning slightly*
IA is unpopular.. They are the police of
Starfleet. Like all of us they have a job to do. However unpopular
does not equate to dysfunctional.
Expect to see new management in IA within
the next couple of days.. I will not elaborate further.
*she folds her hands over her chest signaling
the subject closed*
TIB:*Turns to Carry* I'll let you
have the last word on this subject.
Carry: Well, I think I;ve said this
before but if you our competent people at the head of the departments
that will be around alot and take care of what they need to everything
should get better..
