Starbase Clannad, Reydovan Sector — Admiral Joshua Underwood of Starbase Clannad Fleet Yards announces the completion of the first Skyrider-class experimental heavy cruiser, the Skyrider itself (NX-1831).

Commanded by Admiral Underwood's aide, Vice-Admiral Vasily Borodin, Skyrider left Clannad Drydock A after about a year and a half of refitting from the standard Constitution class refit.

The new Skyrider class features a third nacelle, radiation-based phaser banks in place of her standard units, quantum torpedo launchers, and improved sensor and shield systems. The first new build cruiser, the Liberty (NCC-82141), will leave drydock in about 2 months (construction began about eight months before the Skyrider's refit).

Skyrider was originally built in 2290 and commissioned two years later. However, the decommissioning order for the Constitution-class refit was issued the next year, and Skyrider was placed in storage until then-Captain Underwood dusted her off in 2370, and began the first conversion (upgrading phaser, shield and photon torpedo capability).

During the Dominion War, Underwood began the upgrade process for the Skyrider. This new vessel will compliment the Discovery (NX-70000) class dreadnoughts.
