WEST MILTON (ARD-7) and
WATERFORD (ARD-5)

This is another view of the two drydocks. During this period, the drydocks were under the cognizance of the Bureau of Docks and Yards. The inside of the basin walls were painted black. I can only imagine how hot it was in the summer. With white walls, it was normally 10-15 degrees hotter in the basin during the summer.

To the right of the WATERFORD, you can get a better look at the fleet diesel boat along the quaywall. A lot larger than most people would think. According to newspaper accounts during this time period, there were to be over one hundred moorings placed along the Thames for the reserve diesel submarines.

If anyone out there has any info on the boats or the docks in the pictures, please, e-mail me. Trying to obtain more info on drydocks for a possible homepage.
